About the event
Join us for an interactive, hands-on workshop designed to help you confidently navigate court cases involving Limited English Proficiency (LEP) parties. You’ll gain practical insight into the challenges faced by LEP participants during interpreted proceedings—and learn strategies to ensure equitable and efficient access to their hearings.
By the end of this 2-hour session, you’ll be able to:
Recognize when simultaneous or consecutive interpretation is most appropriate
Confidently use Zoom’s simultaneous interpreting feature
Understand how audio quality and speech rate impact interpretation accuracy and listener comprehension
Recognize and mitigate bias related to language access
CLE Credit: Approved for 2 Ethics-Equity CLE credits by the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA).
Registration Details:
$75 if you register by May 1
$85 for registrations after May 1
Registration deadline: May 13 at 12:00 PM
For group discounts, please contact Stacey at stacey@wordsparatodos.com.
If cost is a hardship, we encourage you to reach out—we want this training to be accessible to everyone.
Please note: This workshop does not cover the host-side management of Zoom’s interpreting feature (typically handled by the clerk, coordinator, or bailiff). However, it offers an excellent introduction to remote simultaneous interpreting for judicial officials who are new to—or not yet comfortable with—this option.
